Privacy Policy

Blur Curtain is a Chrome extension for manually hiding sensitive webpage content before screen sharing, presenting, or recording. This policy explains what data the extension handles and how it is used.

Summary

• We do not upload webpage content to our servers.
• We do not sell personal information.
• We do not use page content for advertising or profiling.
• We do not require an account for the core extension.
• We do not intentionally collect payment information in the current version.

Information handled by the extension

Webpage content

Blur Curtain can access the content of webpages where the extension runs. This access is necessary so you can manually select elements, draw blur regions, and apply visual blur effects in the active tab.

Blur Curtain does not transmit webpage content to an external server.

Page URLs

Blur Curtain may store blur records by full page URL in local browser storage. This allows previously blurred elements or regions to be restored on the same page when the keep-blurs behavior is enabled.

User settings

Blur Curtain stores extension settings such as blur intensity, toolbar visibility, toolbar position, and related preferences using Chrome extension storage.

Blur records

Blur Curtain may store local records describing what was blurred on a page, such as CSS selectors, element indexes, and rectangle coordinates. These records are used only to restore blur effects locally in your browser.

Anonymous local identifier

The codebase includes support for a locally stored anonymous identifier for future extension services. In the current version, analytics is a no-op and this identifier is not used to upload page content.

How information is used

• Apply blur effects to selected webpage elements.
• Draw, move, resize, reveal, or delete blur regions.
• Toggle Quick Blur All for the active tab.
• Restore user settings and local blur records.
• Keep the in-page toolbar and popup behavior consistent.

Data sharing

Blur Curtain does not sell, rent, or transfer your webpage content to third parties.

Blur Curtain does not use your data for:

• Advertising targeting.
• Creditworthiness checks.
• Unrelated profiling.
• Selling to data brokers.

Data storage and retention

Blur Curtain stores settings and blur records using Chrome extension storage on your device/browser profile.

• Settings may be stored in Chrome sync storage.
• Page blur records may be stored in Chrome local storage.
• Quick Blur All session state is temporary and scoped to the active tab session.

You can remove stored extension data by clearing blur records in the extension, resetting extension settings where available, or uninstalling the extension from Chrome.

Permissions

• storage: save user settings and local blur records.
• activeTab: act on the tab where the user invokes extension controls.
• scripting: inject or retry the extension content script when needed.
• contextMenus: provide right-click menu controls for Quick Blur All and toolbar visibility.
• <all_urls> host access: allow users to blur content on the webpages they choose to use the extension on.

Remote code and page content

Blur Curtain does not upload page content for processing. Blur effects are applied locally with browser-side code and CSS.

Children’s privacy

Blur Curtain is a general-purpose productivity and privacy tool. It is not directed to children, and the current version does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the extension changes. Material changes should be reflected in this page and in the Chrome Web Store listing before publication.
